Compass was first designed as a COVID-19 triaging text line to assist underserved populations with finding nearby testing locations. Throughout our work with COVID-19 triaging, we learned about the underlying issue of clinical overhead that prevented clinics from adequately addressing patient demand. As such, we redesigned Compass to focus on the issues of patient intake, scheduling, and follow-up to be handled asynchronously in an automated fashion.
